QUESTION: Take photos of your plate at least 3 meals. For each plate, evaluate how it compares to MyPlate. How might you change your plate? What did you do well?
Breakfast
For breakfast I had a bowl of cereal with milk and a banana. Grains, Fruits and dairy are components of MyPlate.
How could I change my plate? I could eat cereal that isn’t coated in sugar. I did eat a banana though, so that is good. I would prefer to eat healthier foods, but sometimes I struggle because time is a factor. I am studying most of the time and I have trouble finding time (and making time) for cooking healthy foods that take a bit of preparation time.
Lunch
For lunch I had a bagel with cream cheese and a banana. As usual, I was in a hurry. I have grains, fruit and dairy/protein components from MyPlate. I could have done better by including a vegetable, but I didn't have an option readily available that wouldn't require preparation. What did I do well? I did eat a banana -- and the cream cheese had “vegetables” in it.

Dinner
For dinner, I ate spaghetti, a veggie-rich sauce, and a bun with cream cheese. For purposes of MyPlate: The cream cheese functions as a protein, and the sauce also contained a protein. The spaghetti and bread are grains. The sauce in the spaghetti is “fortified” with vegetables (added olives, onions, peppers and tomatoes). I could have done better by actually cooking a vegetable and not having so many grains. I did well in that I included as many veggies as I did.
